Junior High

Because you are never too young to follow Jesus, we have set up a Junior High Ministry that brings God to life in the midst of fun, meaningful activities and events. It is more than about just getting together and having fun. By meeting other teens who see God as an important part of their lives, we will form a community that will be there to support us, help us and encourage us in our journey! To accomplish these goals, St. John Vianney has set up various programs directed toward our Junior High youth.

Religious Education

catholic connections handbook for middle schoolersIn our Junior High CCE program, The Catholic Connections Handbook from St. Mary’s Press focuses on fostering the faith of young adolescents by helping them to make connections between our Catholic faith and everyday life. Catholic Connections aims to strengthen the participants’ Catholic identity and inspire them to participate more fully in the Church Community and in the Church’s mission. Our Junior High CCE program places special emphasis on prayer, faith knowledge, and communal life in Christ.

Our main session for Junior High Formation is on Sunday evenings from 6:30-8pm. This session has an extra half hour at the end where all classes come together as a community for a time of learning, fun and games, and prayer. Junior High youth love this session because of the time spent in community with their peers at the end of every night.

Additional sessions for Junior High Formation are held on Sundays at 9:30am, 11am, 12:30pm, and on Monday evenings at 6pm. These sessions are a more traditional 1 hour classrooms format and do not have the community half-hour at the end.

Weekly Youth Night

Every Thursday, 6:30-8pm in the SJV Youth Lounge

All Junior High students at our parish are invited to join us for T.H.U., our Junior High Youth Night on Thursdays in the Youth Lounge! No matter how young or old, you can be an example of what it means to be a Christian in the world today. We have a great time on Thursday nights playing games, sports, having talks, activities, and much more – but most importantly, it is about learning who God is calling us to be and responding to that call. T.H.U. runs weekly on Thursdays from 6:30-8pm. Youth are asked to bring $5, if able, to help with the cost of pizza and drinks.

Monthly Social Night

1st Saturday of Every Month, 6:30-8:30pm, in the SJV Youth Lounge

Saturday Shenanigans is our monthly hangout night for all Jr. High youth! On the 1st Saturday of each month, we open the Youth Lounge from 6:30-8:30pm. There is no set agenda for the night; we play pool, ping-pong, basketball, videogames, boardgames… you name it! Shenanigans is simply an open night for the youth to come, hang out with their friends, and goof off a little in a safe and friendly environment.

In order for Shenanigans to be successful we rely on adult volunteers to help chaperone. Please consider signing up for at least one or two of the nights throughout the year. If each family volunteered twice a year, we would have supervision in abundance! Please email Jeff or Cait for more info. Thanks!
