Camp SJV Employment Information

Camp SJV – is a camp for children ages 4-12 yrs. The camp runs eight weeks during the summer, Monday-Friday, starting June 1 and ending July 31. For the campers, the day begins at 9:00 AM and ends at 4:00 PM. Some of the camp activities include: swimming, arts and crafts, bible stories, recreation, and an activity room which offers various games (ping pong, video games,etc.). We also offer field trips, camper fun days and more. Since this is a Catholic camp, campers and counselors will engage in prayer services, pray the rosary & stations of the cross.

Personal behavior is especially important. All staff members are expected to serve as positive role models for the campers and peers in an educational, fun, and Christian environment. We look for counselors with special skills (theater, art, music, athletics etc.) and tons of energy. Remember we are a team and each person plays an important role.
When you apply, you are committing yourself to the entire program. These commitments include: camp dates, policies, guidelines, meetings, and pre-camp training dates (which all counselors must attend).

  • Interviews will take place during the months of February and no later than mid-March

Junior Staff (16 & 17 yr olds); Senior Staff (18 & Up).
Hours will vary per employee according to the needs of the camp; not to exceed 40 hours. Age Group assignments will be given once registration is completed. The camp director decides where each counselor will be assigned. Work shifts vary between 7:00 AM – 6:00 PM. Pay rates vary accordingly and are confidential in nature. These are discussed during the interview process. Days off for counselors are weekends and the week of July 4th. Due to a state mandated camper/counselor ratio, we strongly discourage days-off requests outside of the 4th of July break; however day off requests will be reviewed on an individual basis and discussed at your interviews. (ex. college orientation, mission trip, etc.)

Counselors are provided two personalized Camp T-shirts, which must be worn on a daily basis along with neat shorts/pants, socks, and tennis shoes. Counselors can purchase additional T-Shirts at cost. All employees 18 and over are required to attend and complete state and diocesan mandated child safe environment courses. Also, all employees 18 years and older must pass a criminal background check prior to employment. (Information for both of these items will be discussed once the hiring process has been completed). Most Counselors must be certified in First Aid and CPR (We will pay for the classes if you are not currently certified). The date for the CPR/1st Aid course will be announced in May.

As previously mentioned, there will be mandatory training/planning dates prior to the beginning of camp. You are required to attend and will be paid accordingly. The training meetings will take place the week of May 18 and May 26 – May 31. The exact dates will be discussed during your interview.
