Assisting Older Adults

The St. John Vianney community partners with caring ministries, groups and organizations to assist and support older adults, the sick and the home-bound, and their caregivers. Volunteers are needed all the time to help us fulfill this beautiful mission. Below is a complete list of our activities:

Senior Rides and More:

Are you looking for a way to help your fellow parishioners?  Senior Rides and More offers opportunities to assist the senior population in your community of west Houston.  Volunteers offer transportation assistance so that seniors can live independently and happily in their own homes.  Our volunteers use their own cars to drive seniors, one-on-one, to their doctor appointments and grocery trips.  This one-on-one service provides not only transportation, but companionship to a lonely senior.  Volunteer drivers are our biggest need!  Without our volunteers, our senior citizens would not get groceries or to their doctors.  Please contact Senior Rides and More for information on how you can help your community benefit from this vital service.  713.772.8181.  Be sure to tell them you are from SJV!

Support Groups for Caregivers:

  • The Gathering Place: A monthly program held at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in partnership with Interfaith CarePartners. This program offers respite care to caregivers with loved ones experiencing memory loss or dementia from conditions such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and Stroke.

Ministry to the Sick:

It is offered through our Parish’s Pastoral Care & Spiritual Life Ministry. Its mission is to faithfully be present to those in need of our support, prayers and most importantly to offer the Sacraments.
