Over the course of eight Main Course presentations, Unlocking the Mysteries presents the “big picture” of salvation history, frees us from the narrow limits of our contingency and opens us to a communion beyond time and reminds us that we are people of the Word.
session Iv: EGYPT; EXODUS & DESERT WANDERINGS
At the close of the Patriarchs period, Jacob’s family has moved to Egypt to escape famine. Eventually they are enslaved by a new pharaoh but God liberates his people from bondage. He gives his people the Law and directions to build the Tabernacle, a place where his presence will rest among them. Israel enters a kind of “boot camp” in the desert, during which God teaches them to trust him. Their failure leads to forty years of wandering in the desert until a new generation learns to walk in faith.
