“Contemporary humans have need of the Word, not words…”. Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI recalled several times that “the encounter with Scriptures is in danger of being not ‘a fact’ of the Church.”
Over the course of eight Main Course presentations, Unlocking the Mysteries presents the “big picture” of salvation history, frees us from the narrow limits of our contingency and opens us to a communion beyond time and reminds us that we are people of the Word.
session viii: MESSIANIC FULFILLMENT, PART II; THE CHURCH
The new life that is possible in Christ restores the family relationship with God. The entire story has been pointing to this fulfillment. The Church carries on the ministry and mission of Christ on earth. The Gospel is proclaimed first in Jerusalem, then in Judea and Samaria, and finally to the ends of the earth. The Acts of the Apostles is presented as a narrative that provides a framework for reading the rest of the New Testament. The story that began in the Garden of Eden now extends through the lives of all Christians in the Church, through each one of us. It is our story; it is our family history. The baton is passed to each new generation in turn. We are challenged to live our part of the story as disciples of Jesus Christ.
