How long have you been a member of St John Vianney Catholic Church? Ten or eleven years.
What is your family’s background? Where are you from originally? I am an eighty-five year old widower who lives alone, i.e. no family. I was born in New Orleans but have lived in Houston since 1941.
How do you live your Catholic Faith? I live my faith through parish activities, as well as the study of theology and its link with philosophy.
How has your involvement at the Parish impacted/changed your life? Being involved here has supported me in my profound grief following the death of my wife of sixty years.
How do you make a difference? What programs or activities are/were you involved in? Men’s retreats ’13 and ’14, ACTS retreat ‘13, Catholicism project, Church History lectures, Bible Study classes, attend weekday Mass (lector when assigned), Morning Liturgy of the Hours (lead prayers when assigned), teach ESL classes (part of our Social Services Ministry).
What is special about SJV? Do you have a special memory/anecdote you would like to share? SJV is special in its wide range of services where one can become involved; there’s something to fit everyone.
What do you tell your friends & family about SJV? I tell my friends and family that my involvement has brought me closer to God and has given me numerous new friends.
What would you say to someone new who wants to get more involved in the church? You will never regret it.
