About SJV | Our Story

In August 1966, Bishop John L. Morkovsky announced the founding of St. John Vianney Parish. The founding Pastor was Fr. William Tinney. Initially, there were 300 families in the parish. The first Mass was celebrated on October 13, 1968. Three years later, there were 1,600 families in the parish. Construction of the activity center began in 1977.

In February 1979, Msgr. Joe Crosthwait became Pastor. The music/lecture hall and ministries buildings were completed in November 1985. The parish grew to 4,075 families by March 1990.

In July 1996, Fr. John Morfin became Pastor. In the fall of 1997, Bishop Fiorenza raised the issue of church expansion. Construction of the new church was completed in the fall of 2002. The first Mass was celebrated in the new church on December 21, 2002. At that time, the parish consisted of almost 6,000 families.

Fr. R. Troy Gately became the parish’s fourth Pastor in July of 2008. Under his leadership and guidance, the parish continues to grow and minister to the community and to each other. The diversity of both our congregation and our ministries is a testament to the glory of God and the many blessings He has bestowed upon our community.
