Missions

By our baptism, we are called to action! Be a part of our mission to help those in need.

The St. John Vianney community participates in different mission trips, to fulfill our call to serve others, to serve those in need, and ultimately, to serve Christ.  In fact, the St. John Vianney parishioners who go on Mission Trips to El Salvador and Eagle Pass are fulfilling a mandate from Jesus himself: “As the Father has sent me, so I send you” (John 20:21).  The Mission trips focus on ways to reach out and help those in need.  Those who go represent the whole parish of St. John Vianney.  Therefore, the Parish is on Mission.

Mission Advance Team

This team is comprised of parishioners who are not able to travel with us on mission, but who would like to be a part of some of the behind-the-scenes work that goes into preparation for the mission trips.

For the El Salvador mission, this includes collecting medications, vitamins, and medical supplies for the mission trip.  This work also involves sorting, counting, inventorying, and packaging medications.

For the Eagle Pass mission, Advance Team volunteers can assist in data entry, tracking, and sending cards to the families we’ve assisted.

Service Mission to El Salvador

Every year, St. John Vianney Catholic Church teams up with St. Thomas More Parish and Helping Hands Medical Missions to plan and travel to El Salvador during the fall.  The missions provide a number of medical services to the suffering poor.  The mission program also includes daily Mass, opportunities for spiritual direction and reconciliation.

Our team consists of healthcare professionals (physicians, optometrists, dentists, nurses, pharmacists, and a variety of medical personnel), as well as translators and other lay helpers.

Additionally, the Social Services Ministry collects non-prescription medications, vitamins and medical supplies for every medical mission trip.  Please stop by the Social Service Ministries Building or call 281.497.4434 during office hours to learn more about when you may donate these items.

If you would like additional information or you are interested in joining our mission team, please contact Glorivel, 281.497.4434, or visit Helping Hands Medical Missions.

Service Mission to Eagle Pass, Texas

This mission focuses on home repairs for the elderly and handicapped poor, visiting homes of the poor and shut-ins, community outreach and evangelization, and mission spirituality.

The Mission House in Eagle Pass is a Benedictine House run by sisters Ursula Herrera and Germaine Marie.  This is the center where the group gathers as a community for meals, the “Breaking of the Bread” and prayers.  The House can accommodate over twenty-five people, both men and women.

Sister Ursula meets a few parishioners beforehand to schedule the trip and evaluate the needs of various individuals and decide how we can help.

Parish mission trips are scheduled in spring (March/April) and fall (October) each year.

Read SJV’s very own Mission Prayer, and please keep the SJV Mission Teams in your prayers as we journey to El Salvador and the Texas/Mexico Border.
