Missions

Missions

The St. John Vianney community participates in different mission trips to fulfill our call to serve others, to serve those in need, and ultimately, to serve Christ.  In fact, the St. John Vianney parishioners who go on Mission Trips are fulfilling a mandate from Jesus himself: “As the Father has sent me, so I send you” (John 20:21).  The Mission trips focus on ways to reach out and help those in need.  Those who go represent the whole parish of St. John Vianney.  Therefore, the Parish is on Mission.

Service Mission to Eagle Pass, Texas

This mission focuses on home repairs for the elderly and handicapped poor, visiting homes of the poor and homebound, community outreach and evangelization, and mission spirituality.

The Mission House in Eagle Pass is a Benedictine House run by sisters Ursula Herrera and Germaine Marie.  This is the center where the group gathers as a community for meals, the “Breaking of the Bread” and prayers.

2020 marked ten years of Service Mission Trips to Eagle Pass, TX. Since the beginning, the Service Missions have been rooted in SJV’s own Mission based on Acts 2:42: “They devoted themselves to the teaching of the apostles, and to the communal life, to the breaking of the bread, and to the prayers.” Throughout this time and with nearly 300 homes repaired or built, Mission Team members have answered Our Lord’s call to go out and make disciples (Mt 28:19) and to care for the neediest among us (Mt 25:40). Just like Jesus, all of us are called to spread the word of God. That is precisely what they have done and continue to do. Please remember to keep our current and former Mission Team members in your prayers and to thank them for their hard work and generosity of spirit. Watch this video presentation commemorating the Team’s 10th Anniversary.

Parish mission trips are scheduled in spring (March/April) and fall (November) each year. A signed release is required to participate. Construction experience is not required. Spanish is not required but is welcomed for those doing home visits. For information on upcoming Mission Trips to Eagle Pass, email Clay or contact the Social Services Ministry office at 281.497.4434
