As Christians, we want to know our family tree, our history. We want to know who has gone before us, where they came from, and what they believed. In this study participants learn who the Church Fathers were, how they shaped the way we read Scripture, and realize the powerful effect Scripture had on the developing Church. For the early Church Fathers, reading God’s word was no academic pursuit. Their love for God and his word transformed their lives—just as it has the power to transform ours today. This 12-week study, from St. Paul Center, will be offered on Tuesday mornings beginning Sept. 12, 9:45am – 11:45am, in the A/V Room.

The Bible Timeline: The Story of Salvation is one of the foundational studies in The Great Adventure Series and takes participants on a journey through the Bible, delving deep into pivotal periods of salvation history to discover the amazing story woven throughout Scripture. Participants will learn about major people, places, and events, and see how they all come together to reveal the remarkable story of our faith. The Ascension Press 24 week study is offered on Wednesday evenings beginning Sept. 13, 6:30pm – 8:30pm, in the A/V Room.

Matthew: The King and His Kingdom explores the life and mission of Jesus. Matthew demonstrates how the promises and prophecies of the Old Testament are fulfilled in Jesus, who inaugurates the Kingdom of God on earth. Participants learn how people came to realize that Jesus was the long-awaited Messiah who relives the life and struggles of Israel to become the faithful and victorious King. Set in the rich context of Jesus’ Jewish culture, this study helps participants understand and appreciate it as part of our heritage. This Ascension Press 24 week study, on Wednesday evenings, begins Sept. 13, 6:30pm – 8:30pm, in Room C-25.

Acts: The Spread of the Kingdom reveals how Christ’s Kingdom on earth is empowered to carry on his work in the world. Acts reveals the Church, enlivened by the Holy Spirit, teaching, preaching, healing, and restoring the marginalized in the same way that Jesus did. The Book of Acts provides a historic framework for understanding the rest of the New Testament. Paul’s letters in particular come alive in a new way when they are read within the context of the Acts narrative. This Ascension Press 20 week study, held on Wednesday evenings, begins Sept. 13, 6:30pm-8:30pm, in Room C-26.

James: Pearls for Wise Living is one of the most practical books of the Bible. Like the book of Proverbs, it is a book of wisdom, a collection of teachings on issues faced by ordinary Christians in everyday life. These teachings speak loudly to all those who feel torn between the competing demands of this world and their faith. This study offers “pearls for wise living” by applying the wisdom of James to the present day. James offers a wealth of practical solutions for handling and even sanctifying everyday circumstances. This Ascension Press 11 week study, on Wednesday evenings, begins Sept. 13, 6:30pm – 8:30pm, in Room C-24.

REVELATION: The Kingdom Yet to Come is an intriguing study that shows how the kingdom established by Christ in his Church is intimately connected with the kingdom of heaven. This study uncovers the meaning of the mysterious figures and images used in this book. Revelation is more than an apocalyptic vision of the “end times.” It is a revelation of God as our Divine Bridegroom and the Church as his spotless Bride, forever united in a heavenly, holy, and mystical marriage that we enter into every time we celebrate the Mass. This Ascension Press 11-week study, offered on Wednesday evenings, beginning Sept. 13, 6:30pm – 8:30pm, in St. Jude Hall.
