EPIC: A Journey Through Church History

This is our story, our family; holy women and men who, over two thousand years, built a great civilization and spread the Gospel throughout the world.
The history of the Church is not just the recitation of Popes and Saints; it is a story of adventure, intrigue, rebellion, reform, and devotion.

In this study you will learn about the important people, places, and events in two thousand years of Church history. The better we know our history, the better prepared we will be to face the future.

David the King

Adam, the first king and steward of the rightly ordered Garden of Eden, was called to govern the garden according to God’s will and purpose, but he did not fulfill his kingly responsibility. Long after Adam, David emerged as the definitive king who would restore order and bring the world under the lordship of God. But like Adam, David fell, and his reign ushered in a succession of compromised kings and rejected prophets. God promised a son of David who would realize the fullness of Israelite kingship…but whose actual reign defied expectation. This study will look back to Adam’s kingship and forward toward Christ the King, the fulfillment of the Davidic line and the realization of the Kingdom of God on earth. In David the King, Bishop Barron helps us understand this pivotal figure in light of the first king and the King of kings.

First Corinthians: The Church and the Christian Community

This bible study explores the key elements of the Gospel message Paul introduced to a new and growing Church. It presents Paul’s counsel to the church in Corinth as they sought to live their Christian faith in the midst of a pagan culture. The struggles faced by these early Christians are in many ways similar to our own. Paul’s messages to the Corinthians about divisions, immorality, persecution, and other trials, offer much-needed wisdom for our own times.

The Sacraments

Bishop Barron takes a fresh look at the seven sacraments of the Church in all their theological depth, spirituality, and wonder: Baptism, Confirmation, the Eucharist, Reconciliation, the Anointing of the Sick, Matrimony, and Holy Orders. Through the seven sacraments of the Church, Jesus is present, ministering to his people. Healing, nourishing and anointing them. These seven holy Sacraments are not just symbols of Christ, they are encounters with him!
