Seeking the Holy Spirit in the Desert of Lent
The spiritual desert is uncomfortable by design. It strips away distractions. It exposes weaknesses. It reveals what we rely on besides (or in place of) God. Jesus entered that space full of the Holy Spirit, and it was precisely there that His identity and mission were clarified.
Spiritual growth requires more than willpower. It requires surrender. The desert is not about deprivation for its own sake. It is about dependence and direction. It is about clearing away whatever competes with God, so that He can take deeper root in us. We then listen for His promptings and trust that direction – even if it feels uncomfortable. But sometimes we are not sure of what we are hearing or who is saying it. Is it self-talk, is it coming from the evil one, or is it the Spirit? Tori offers guidance on how we can discern the Spirit working in our lives.
