SJV Assistance Ministries

Call to Family, Community, and Participation is one of the 7 Catholic Social Teaching Themes on which we base our Assistance Ministries

“The person is not only sacred but also social. How we organize our society—in economics and politics, in law and policy—directly affects human dignity and the capacity of individuals to grow in community. Marriage and the family are the central social institutions that must be supported and strengthened, not undermined. We believe people have a right and a duty to participate in society, seeking together the common good and well-being of all, especially the poor and vulnerable. “

We have a NEW perspective to our Christ-Centered Approach.

We no longer provide Emergency Services.

What does this mean? Rather than a band-aid fix that doesn’t allow for long term stability, we now focus on:

Empowering financially vulnerable pregnant and parenting women and families through strengthening their faith and helping them build skills, find jobs, learn English, and manage their finances so they can foster stable lives and thrive independently.

SJV Assistance Ministries provide:

  • Resources
  • Guidance
  • Empowerment
  • Accompaniment

These resources are allocated for:

  • Vulnerable families within our physical parish boundaries that are willing to work with us and develop a plan to attain stability.
  • Individuals and families who are actively enrolled in other Social Services ministries, such as Walking with Moms in Need, the Gabriel Project, and others that require long-term engagement.

Why? Because SJV Assistance Ministries is not an emergency relief agency. We are a ministry that focuses on long-term empowerment:

At SJV Assistance Ministries, our goal is to form relationships and partnerships with hard-working Houstonians willing to build stable lives and hope-filled futures. We walk alongside families on their journey to stability and independence.

For individuals residing in zip codes 77077 and 77079 and who are seeking financial assistance with rent or utilities, we continue to schedule appointments for an interview and referral to partner agenciesprovided that you meet these agencies’ requirements. For additional information, call us at 281.752.2400.
